Nests and Wardrobes

A bedroom is more than a place to sleep. It is a personal space where comfort, routine, and quiet moments come together. At Andrew Dobson Architects, we designed bedrooms as carefully curated environments, where calm met functionality and every element was crafted to seamlessly integrate into daily life. From the placement of lighting to the selection of materials, every decision was made to shape a space that feels natural and intuitive.

This level of precision is still central to my approach. Ensuring that wardrobes are polished but also efficient is something I continue to prioritise in my practice. Years of collaboration with exceptionally skilled joiners and artisans have shaped my way of designing these spaces. Their craftsmanship brought our past concepts to life, and that same ethos remains at the heart of my work today, ensuring wardrobes stay as refined as the day they were built.

Wardrobe design presents both creative and technical challenges. Unlike freestanding furniture, built-in wardrobes are conceived as a permanent part of a home, ideally designed to last a lifetime. This means that material quality, craftsmanship, and durability are just as important as aesthetics. Doors that are opened and closed countless times a day must withstand continuous use while maintaining an elegant presence within the room.

Another key aspect of wardrobe design is organization. Most clients lead busy lives and prefer enclosed storage to keep clutter out of sight and maintain a sense of calm. The internal layout must be rational and efficient, allowing for a smooth daily routine without wasted time. Behind a sequence of identical doors, the interiors are carefully planned, a hidden world of compartments, rails, and shelves designed for ease, order, and longevity.
